Saraki thanks Ali Ahmad, Omar Gambari over consensus backing for Kale Kawu
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has expressed appreciation to aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara State who agreed to a consensus arrangement ahead of the party’s 2027 governorship election plans.
Saraki, who leads the opposition PDP in Kwara State, had on Saturday announced Kale Kawu as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
In a series of tweets on Sunday, Saraki commended the other aspirants for what he described as their maturity, sacrifice and commitment to the unity of the party.
Addressing one of the aspirants, Omar Bolaji Gambari, Saraki praised his conduct throughout the process, describing him as disciplined and statesmanlike despite being a first-time contender.
“I know stepping down was not an easy decision for you. You had every right to pursue your ambition to the very end, but you chose to place our party and our beloved state first,” Saraki wrote.
He added that Gambari’s decision to support the consensus arrangement demonstrated loyalty to the PDP and commitment to the development of Kwara State above personal ambition.
Saraki also assured the aspirant that his political future within the party remained promising, noting that “Kwara has not heard the last of Omar Bolaji Gambari.”
The former Senate President equally hailed Ali Ahmad for accepting the consensus decision in the interest of the party.
According to Saraki, Ahmad’s action reflected the selflessness and sense of responsibility he had consistently demonstrated over the years.
“Once again, you have placed the larger cause above personal ambition, and you have done so with the dignity and sense of responsibility that have come to define you,” he stated.
Saraki further urged the former lawmaker not to see the development as a permanent setback, stressing that the PDP still needed his experience, voice and wisdom.
