Nyime Nbride, a 30-year-old man, has been remanded by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja over alleged defilement of his 12-year-old daughter.
The suspect has been charged with defilement, sexual assault, and indecent treatment of a child.
Mrs E. Kubeinje, the Chief Magistrate, has refused to welcome the defendant’s plea for want of jurisdiction.
The Chief Magistrate has directed the police to take the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for necessary legal advice.
She has adjourned the matter until Nov. 13.
The prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, had earlier informed the court that the suspect committed the offence on Feb. 22.
Ajayi revealed that the mother of the girl reported the matter at the police station, and the victim attested that she had been exposed to molestation by her father more than once in his room.
The prosecutor revealed that the offence was against the provisions of Sections 135, 137, and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
