A group of armed persons who were strongly suspected to be agents of the separatist militants connected to the Biafra Nations League, BnL, allegedly kidnapped three oil workers on Saturday morning in Cross River State.
Report has it that they also seized boat and other safety materials which belonged to an oil company in the Atabong area in the Bakassi Peninsula.
Sources revealed that the oil workers were proceeding to workplace around 9am when the armed individuals effected an invasion and took the three workers away.
The sources also identified that the armed persons were shooting sporadically to disperse the security officers before they disappeared into the thin air with the kidnapped workers.
The security officers securing two vessels were caught unaware but no casualties were recorded.
Princewill Chimezie Richards, who’s the leader of BnL, who has been engaging the security officers in battles and clashes was reported to have encountered men of the Nigerian Navy in Ibaka in Akwa Ibom State when he and his people were moving back to Bakassi where they majorly carry out their operations.
Report also has it that both were involved in a fire exchange.
The operatives of the navy made attempt to halt the movement of the boat conveying Princewill and his men but all efforts proved abortive as they resisted the arrest.
This incident has been confirmed by Ita Bassey, the Bakassi Chapter leader of the group.
The spokesperson of the Cross River State Police Command, Irene Ugbo, has said that she was not aware of the incident.
