Seven Abducted Gateway ICT Polytechnic Students Rescued in Ogun

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced the rescue of all seven students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, who were abducted in July.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the governor said the students were rescued alive through a coordinated operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, hunters, and other security agencies.

Abiodun said the state government immediately activated a comprehensive security response after the abduction was reported, adding that the operation was strengthened with aerial surveillance following a request to the Inspector General of Police.

According to the governor, the successful rescue underscores the value of intelligence sharing, inter-agency collaboration, and sustained operational pressure.

“We are delighted to announce the successful rescue of all seven victims abducted in connection with the recent incident involving students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade,” he said.

“This outcome demonstrates what is possible through decisive leadership, intelligence sharing, inter-agency cooperation, and sustained operational pressure.”

Abiodun commended security personnel, traditional rulers, community leaders, vigilantes, local hunters, and residents for their contributions, noting that their cooperation and intelligence were crucial to the operation.

He reiterated that the safety and security of residents remain central to his administration’s vision for a prosperous Ogun State.

“The safety and security of our people remain the foundation upon which our vision for a prosperous Ogun State rests. Without security, our people cannot live, work, invest, and pursue their aspirations with confidence,” he said.

The governor added that efforts to arrest those behind the abduction and dismantle the criminal network responsible for the attack are ongoing.

“Our work, however, is not finished. Operations are continuing to bring everyone connected with this criminal enterprise to justice and dismantle the networks that enable such crimes,” he said.

Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s security architecture, stressing that there would be no safe haven for criminals anywhere in Ogun State.
