Popular Moro Bridge collapses in Kwara, disrupts vehicular movement
The popular Moro bridge linking part of Kwara State and Oyo State has collapsed.
The bridge reportedly caved in on Thursday, disrupting the flow of vehicular and pedestrian movement.
The bridge is considered as a critical infrastructure which is key to economic activities, especially transporting of goods and services between Kwara and Oyo States.
Kwara State government through the Ministry of Works confirmed the incident on Thursday saying the bridge “collapsed overnight under the weight of a heavy-duty truck”
In the statement signed by Olajide Moyo Abolarin,
Press Secretary of the Ministry of works, the government directed traffic diversion and said it has deployed traffic managers to the area.
The statement noted that it has in collaboration with federal governmenr began work on alternative route to ease vehicular traffic along the corridor and urged motorists to drive with care.
The government also dirceted that “State traffic managers are to work with transport unions and commuters to maintain orderly passage on the alternative route while palliative work begins immediately on the old iron-made bridge,”
“We call for patience and understanding of road users and others while the emergency is resolved.” it said.
The government also added that says “it has assurances that federal authorities are pushing ahead with the new Moro bridge which is already under construction a few meters away
