Kwara Progressive Youth Endorses Tinubu for Re-Election, Backs Dele Belgore (SAN) for 2027 Governorship
The Kwara Progressive Youth (KPY) has formally declared its support for the re-election of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while also endorsing legal luminary, Mohammad Dele Belgore (SAN), as its preferred candidate for the 2027 Kwara State governorship election.
The endorsement was announced during a well-attended press conference held on Thursday at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Hall in Ilorin, where youth leaders, stakeholders, and party faithful gathered to chart what they described as a “clear path for continuity and progress” in both the state and the country.
Addressing members of the press, party leaders, and stakeholders, the Convener of KPY, Comrade Usman Omobolaji Musa (popularly known as Jabata), said the group’s decision was reached after extensive consultations across the state.
He commended the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for what he described as purposeful leadership, noting that the government has laid a credible foundation through prudent governance, infrastructural development, and a commitment to transparency and accountability.
According to him, “the progress achieved in Kwara State must not be interrupted but strengthened, expanded, and accelerated.”
Speaking on national politics, the group expressed unwavering support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, citing ongoing reforms as bold and necessary steps toward economic recovery and national transformation.
“At this critical time in Nigeria’s history, what is required is not a change in direction, but the courage to stay the course and consolidate the gains already being recorded,” Jabata added.
On the 2027 governorship race, the youth group declared that Mohammad Dele Belgore (SAN) stands out as the most capable candidate to sustain and advance the current administration’s achievements.
Describing the senior advocate as a leader of integrity, competence, and vision, Jabata added that Belgore represents “stability with progress and experience with purpose,” adding that his leadership would unlock new opportunities for investment, growth, and inclusive development in Kwara State.
“This is not just an endorsement; it is a strategic decision rooted in the need for tested leadership and continuity,” he emphasized.
The group also used the platform to call for unity among party leaders and urged young people across the state to actively participate in the political process, stressing that their involvement would shape the future of Kwara.
“To our grassroots supporters, you are the engine of this movement. We urge you to take this message to every ward, every community, and every doorstep,” Jabata added.
Other youth leaders present at the event echoed similar sentiments, reinforcing the call for continuity and collective action ahead of the 2027 elections.
Among those seated at the high table were Comrade Muhammed Hamirat Omoronike, former Vice Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Kwara State chapter, and Comrade Ishaq AbdulQuadir Idi-Isin, the incumbent General Secretary of the Ilorin Emirate Students Union, University of Ilorin.
The conference concluded with a strong message of unity and readiness by the group, as members reiterated their commitment to mobilizing support across the state.
“We are organized, united, and ready — ready to mobilize, ready to engage, and ready to win,” the convener declared.
