Kwara residents extol Professor Aremu’s values, dumps APC for PDP
Some residents of Aiyelabowo Isale Moro community in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State have formally defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing confidence in the leadership and grassroots commitment of Prof. Fatai Aremu.
The decamping ceremony, held on Tuesday at Akanbi Ward 5, was attended by key PDP stakeholders, including the Ilorin South Local Government Party Chairman, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Oje; the Party’s State Organising Secretary, Hon. Olaitan Obalowu; and Prof. Fatai Aremu. They were led to the event by Hon. Amir Alege alongside members of the Professor Fatai Aremu Volunteer Team.
Speaking on behalf of the decampees, the residents said their decision to leave the APC was driven by Prof. Aremu’s consistent support and enduring relationship with the community.
They described him as a leader who has remained connected to their needs over the years, declaring collectively that they were joining the PDP because “Prof. Fatai Aremu has never forgotten us.”
Observers at the event described the development as a significant political shift in the area, one expected to strengthen the PDP’s base in Ilorin South Local Government. Community members expressed optimism that their new political alignment would translate into improved representation and accelerated development.
Commending the residents for what they described as a bold and principled decision, the PFA Volunteer Team said the defection reflected the people’s desire for positive change and their belief in leadership rooted in service and accountability.
The PDP leaders present welcomed the new members into the party and assured them of inclusive participation as the party continues to consolidate its structure at the grassroots level in Ilorin South.
