Imo PDP SWC Members Join APC, Cite Lack of Internal Democracy as Reason

The seven members of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, who recently defected from the party, have formally become members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors include Sir Martins Ejiogu, former Deputy Chairman of Imo PDP; Nze Ray Emeaña, former Secretary; Barr Chibuisi Obido; Collins Opurozor; Mrs Maria Mbakwe; Greg GOC Nwadike, and Barr Josiah Eze.

Yesterday, they held a formal meeting with Governor Hope Uzodimma at the Government House in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

In a statement presented to the governor, the defectors expressed their decision to join the APC, stating their desire to collaborate with the current administration in improving the state.

They cited the absence of internal democracy as the reason for their departure from the PDP.

The statement read, “Your Excellency, we are here to inform you that we have come to join you in your patriotic and determined efforts to transform Imo State in terms of infrastructure, economy, and social status. We have come to be admitted into the All Progressives Congress and your administration, where accountability, inclusivity, and a strong commitment to make Imo State better prevail.”
