Ilorin west APC caucus backs Bolarinwa for 2027 governorship, declares support for Tinubu
The Ilorin West Progressive Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed former Kwara APC Chairman, Hon. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, as its preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The group also threw its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The position was announced on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at Doctors Hall, Ilorin, where party leaders, elders, youths, and women groups were in attendance.
Speaking at the event, the convener, Hon. Ayoola Ogbisesan, said the endorsement followed wide consultations across the wards, noting that the decision was based on Bolarinwa’s experience and track record in public service.
He said the Caucus was convinced that the former APC state chairman has the capacity to address key challenges facing the state, including insecurity, unemployment, and economic development.
Also speaking, Prof. Yahya Duro Usman Ambali said the group adopted Bolarinwa after what he described as months of engagement with party members at the grassroots.
According to him, the decision was driven by competence and credibility, rather than mere political promises.
He listed Bolarinwa’s previous roles to include councilor, local government chairman, member of the House of Representatives, and APC state chairman.
Ambali added that the Caucus expects the governorship hopeful to prioritise security, education, youth empowerment, and agriculture if elected.
A communique issued at the end of the meeting and read by Alhaji Ola Rasaq said the endorsement was unanimously agreed upon by stakeholders of the group, including its executive members, ward coordinators, and youth and women wings.
The communique noted that Bolarinwa’s background in public service and his positions on insecurity and job creation informed the decision.
The group also passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of the APC and called for mobilisation of members across the wards ahead of the 2027 elections.
It further urged political actors to embrace peaceful and issue-based campaigns.
Prayers were also offered for the success of President Tinubu and the party ahead of the next general elections.
The Caucus expressed confidence that the state would witness improved governance if Bolarinwa emerges victorious in 2027.
