The National Association of Kwara State Students today concluded its 1st edition of oratory contest.
The 2019 Oratory Contest had about 10 participants speaking on the topic; “How education can be used for sustainable development”.
The guest lecturer, Mr Lawal Olohungbebe while delivering his speech noted how education can be used in sustaining developments in Nigeria. He further gave insights on education has helped developed nations strengthen their progress.
“If we want our nation to be at the right place, education shouldn’t be taken with levity,” Oloungbebe said.
Speaking during the occasion, The representative of the Kwara State governor, Prof Sheu Adaramaja stated education as one of their priority.
“The government has already disbursed its annual bursary to about 8,304 final year students and about 89 students from the Nigerian Law school received a sum of #100,000 each,” Adaramaja said.
The winner was awarded a prize of N60,000. While the first and second runner-up were given N50,000 and N40,000 respectively.
The executive governor of the state, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was also decorated as the grand patron of the Association.
Dignitaries present at the event includes; Oba (Dr) Bamidele Adegbite, the Ohoro of Shao town; Prof Sheu Raheem Adaramaja of the University of Ilorin; Dr (Mrs) Habeebah Adam, Deputy Rector Academics Kwara State Polytechnic; Prof. Wale Sulaiman represented by Mr Gbenga Akanbi amongst others.
