How jealousy drove woman to kill 3-year-old girl in Kaiama: Police
Detectives of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested a woman, Sadiat Yunusa, for allegedly strangling a three-year-old girl, Ummaiyat, to death in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
The police said the suspect allegedly committed the crime over a lingering family dispute fuelled by jealousy and resentment.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said the command launched an investigation after receiving a report of the incident at the Kaiama Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had been left in the care of a family member while her mother went to Kaiama Central Market.
He said the suspect allegedly lured the child to a nearby farm settlement, where she strangled her to death.
Adekimi said detectives swiftly arrested the suspect, who allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.
He said the suspect told investigators that she acted out of resentment stemming from a prolonged domestic dispute, alleging that her husband had neglected her and her three children in favour of his second wife.
The police commissioner added that the suspect has been charged to court.
