Four arraigned over alleged robbery, murder of herdsman in Kwara

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested and arraigned four suspects over the alleged robbery and murder of a herdsman, Mohammadu A., in Patigi Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Ahmed Alhaji Ahmadu, Abubakar Mohammed, Mustapha Mohammed and Mohammed Tsado, were arrested following an investigation by detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

Addressing journalists in Ilorin on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said the case was transferred from the Patigi Divisional Police Headquarters on June 8, after which detectives commenced a comprehensive investigation into allegations of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide.

According to the police commissioner, preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased had gone out to graze livestock alongside his younger brothers on June 3 when they lost their way and approached some people working on a nearby farmland for directions.

He said one of the individuals offered to guide the deceased back to his settlement, while his younger brothers remained behind waiting for his return.

“When he failed to return after several hours, a search was launched, leading to the discovery of his lifeless body in a nearby bush with multiple machete wounds,” Adekimi said.

He added that further investigation showed the deceased’s motorcycle and ₦500,000, believed to have been in his possession, were missing.

The commissioner said detectives processed the crime scene and evacuated the victim’s body to a medical facility for a post-mortem examination.

He said intelligence gathered during the investigation led to the identification and arrest of the four suspects, who were allegedly linked to the crime.

Adekimi added that the suspects have since been charged to court.
