The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has issued threat to compel the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele to show up before the House.
The Speaker vowed to invoke the provisions of section 89(D) of the 1999 Constitution as amended to compel obedience on the CBN boss.
The Informant247 learned that Section 89 empowers the parliament to issue a warrant of arrest on anybody who turns down the invitation of the House.
The Governor of the CBN wrote the House through his Deputy Governor, Corporate Services, that he’ll not be able to honour the invitation of the House because he’s one of the president’s delegates to Dakar, Senegal.
Reacting, the speaker acknowledged that the CBN chief was his friend but he (Speaker) has constitutional responsibilities to carry out.
The speaker condemned the manner the CBN boss refused to appear before the Honour after being invited on few occasions.
He said the apex bank must make itself available for the meeting organised by the House before the end of business on Thursday.
The speaker said the House would invoke the provisions of section 89(D) of the 1999 Constitution as amended to compel obedience on the CBN boss, to appear before the House.
