Fact Check:Claim about Laurence Maguire’s record with Chesterfield is false

Recently, a social media claim has suggested that Laurence Maguire, a younger brother to Manchester United Defender, Harry Maguire
has scored 2 goals, 9 own goals in 72 games for the England Championship team, Chesterfield.

Other social media users who reposted the claim recently also suggests that Lawrence has more red cards in the team.

The post originated on Facebook on October 29 2022. It has been widely shared and posted by social media users, especially Facebook.

Laurence is the youngest of the Maguire brothers. His older brothers, Joe and Harry are also footballers. While Joe plays for Glossop North End, Harry plays for Manchester United. 

Verification

A thorough check conducted by The Informant247 fact-check team on transfermarkt reveals that the claim is false.

The claim says Laurence is 25 years of age but it was discovered that his real age is 26. He was born in 1997.

It was also discovered that Lawrence has not scored any own goal at Chesterfield but has a total number of Nine goals to his credit with three assists.

Formerly playing for U18 of chesterfield, he had a brief stint on loan to AFC Flyde between February and March of 2017.

He has played a total number of 167 matches for Chesterfield as against 72 suggested by the claim. He has seen only one red card for Chesterfield.
