Barcelona will be heading to the Europa League for a second consecutive season after Inter Milan on Wednesday thrashed Viktoria Plzen 4-0 in the UEFA Champions League group C encounter.
The Catalan needed a huge favour from PIzen to beat and drew Inter Milan and Xavi and his boys would have to come so early to the Camp Nou to witness the game between both sides before their clash against Bayern Munich on Wednesday’s night.
That the Czech republic side lost to Inter 4-0 means that the hope of Barcelona in making the Champions League group stages has been sufficiently dashed.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan opened the scoring after 35 minutes before former Man City striker Edin Dzeko doubled the lead before half-time.
Dzeko would then added his second in the 66th minute to put the game beyond sight, and firmly end Barcelona’s Champions League campaign before Romelu Lukaku then came off the bench and added a fourth.
Although Inter Progressed, but they will have to rely on beating Bayern Munich and hoping the Rekordmeister drop points against Barcelona to top the group at the end of the day. Which ever way- they are into round 16 already.
However, much is not left for Barcelona to fight for in the Europe top competition as they now face off with German giants in the Camp Nou- probably a win to rob off the face of their fans as they head in to the Europa league.
Barcelona only managed to get four points from their last four game- leaving them in third position behind Bayern Munich (12 points) and Inter (10 points).
