Eagles’ Coaching job: NFF to conduct further interviews for Paseiro, Valverde and others
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed its plan to conduct further interviews for the
candidates who has sought to occupy the position of Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles.
The development, which was disclosed in a communique sent by the NFF’s Communications Department following a meeting between the football body and the Sports Ministry
Recall that the Ministry had earlier disagreed with the NFF on the choice of Jose Paseiro as the new Coach of Super Eagles and requested for a ‘level playing ground’ in the recruiting process.
According to
www.completesports.com, It was revealed that both the NFF and the ministry will meet to make a final decision concerning the appointment of the new Technical Adviser.
“NFF will take the next few days to conduct further interviews with the prospective coaches/candidates seeking to become the Super Eagles Technical Adviser.
“Thereafter NFF will meet with the Ministry to reach a final decision on the matter.
“Key Performance Indicators, (KPIs)are to be fully worked out and put in place before a new national coach is hired.
“The Ministry tasked NFF on absolute commitment to the rebuilding process for Nigerian football and the national teams in all areas.
The informant247 had earlier reported that Former Netherlands star, Philip Cocu, erstwhile Barcelona handler Ernesto Valverde, France 1998 World Cup winner Laurent Blanc and Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro have been shortlisted for the top job by NFF.
The need for a new Coach for Super Eagles of Nigeria is imperative since the exit of the former Coach, Austine Eguavoen who failed to qualify the team past the round of 16 in the last AFCON and to Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Meanwhile, NFF had in April announced the appointment of assistant coaches for the Super Eagles even while the Head Coach was yet to be appointed.
The assistants are Salisu Yusuf who will be the first assistant coach and former Nigeria international Finidi George is the second assistant.
Others include Usman Abdallah (third assistant), Ike Shorunmu (goalkeeper trainer) and Eboboritse Uwejamomere as the match analyst.
The new Coach, alongside his assistants would be preoccupied with the purpose of reviving the image of the team as the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers kicked off on May 30.
