Rivers United have qualified for the group phase of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup.
The Pride of Rivers defeated visiting Etoile Filante du Ougadougou 2-0 at the Adokieye Amasiamaka Stadium, in Port Harcourt on Sunday to pick up the ticket.
The Stanley Eguma led side had earlier held the Burkinabe side goalless in the first leg played in Yamaussukoro, Côte d’Ivoire two weeks ago- thus advancing to the lucrative group stage 2-0 on goals aggregate.
A match dominated by penalites, Rivers United lost two spotkicks awarded to them by the match referee in the game.
Meanwhile, Alex Oyowah scored to put the Pride of Rivers 1-0 up in 89th minutes to calm the nerves of the fans who had earlier grew so worried.
He would later hits a brace when he scored a penalty later awarded to Rivers United to wrap it up 2-0.
Rivers United now remain the only Nigerian club competing at the contingental level after the exit of Enyimba FC and Remo Stars in CAF Champions League and Bendel Insurance
