The former president of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has appealed to African leaders not to turn themselves to bosses, but rather see themselves as servants to their subjects.

This was revealed by the former Nigerian leader at the weekend received African Democracy and Peace Icon Award in Kigali, Rwanda.

He appealed to African leaders to place humanity over every other thing.

Respected African leaders and dignitaries were also dignified at the maiden event of the African Heritage Concert and Awards.

The event was put in place to honour African leaders in their various fields of endeavour in the black continent.

The former Nigerian leader implored African leaders who are at the helm of affairs to serve their subjects and not turn themselves to “bosses of the people”.

“When you are called the executive president, our duty is to run our country properly, not to dehumanize human beings and make their lives difficult.

“What you should think is when you leave office, what will the world remember for? Will the world remember you for killing people? Will the world remember you for jailing people, or will the world remember you for destroying their systems?

“What people will remember you for is what should guide our decisions, and I believe if every leader should begin to think that when you leave office, one day you will be remembered one way or the other, positively or negatively,” Jonathan declared.
