Some suspected political thugs have reportedly beaten up the Rivers State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC, Tonye Cole, and the Chairman of the party, Chief Emeka Beke in Port Harcourt, the capital of the state.
The Informant247 recalls that the supporters of the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had on Monday clashed in the capital city.
It was learnt that a person was hit by a stray bullet and sustained injury.
PDP supporters earlier staged a protest in front of the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) along Aba Road in the capital city.
The electoral commission on Friday informed Cole and his supporters to appear at its office to take the Certified True Copies of documents which were used to conduct and declare the March 18 governorship and state house of assembly elections in the state.
This was done to assist APC file process at the tribunal.
PDP supporters on Monday occupied the INEC office requesting the electoral commission to give them CTC of the documents of the election.
The supporters of the PDP barricaded all routes to the INEC office, affirming that they came victorious in the election and deserve to collect copies of the documents.
While the protest was ongoing, the governorship candidate of the APC, Cole, the chairman of his party, Beke and a few other members of their team arrived.
The demonstrators stopped the APC stakeholders who were possibly invited by the electoral commission to the office, from entering the facility.
Some of the protesters took the advantage of the protest to chase APC chieftains away from the facility of INEC.
