Customs stopped, seized 758 bales of smuggled used clothing , body creams, others
The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘B’ had an encounter and stopped 758 sacks and bales of smuggled used body cream, clothing with duty paid worth N 690.8 million within the zone.
Albashir Hamisu, who’s the NCS Comptroller, while moving around with newsmen to inspect the items in Kaduna on Friday, revealed that the items that were seized inlude 473 cartons of foreign pharmaceutical goods.
”The opeartions unit has recorded a lot of successes. We recorded 132 seizures.
”Other items seized are 533 cartons of foreign pasta, macaroni and 749 bags of foreign perboiled rice,” he said.
He revealed that smugglers are getting more powerful in their illegality.
”We conducted this operation based on information gathered from the military.
“This is a big catch through the land border. The federal government has good plans for Nigeria. If these are allowed to come in, our textile industries would not survive,” he said.
He revealed that 24 units of used motors were also seized.
He disclosed that 70 parcels of marijuana, valued over N2million was stopped and seized..
Similarly, he revealed 41 bags of foreign fertilisers and 59 jerry cans of vegetable oil valued over N2m, among others were also stopped and seized.
Ali Kubau, the Asstisstant Commander Narcotics from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), shortly after the handing over of the seized cannabis, commended the FOU Zone B for the operation, which he described as very imperative.
”We were here some weeks ago to collect similar substances seized by your officers. This is a seizure, that ensures everybody goes to sleep.
”This is what propels bandits to unleash whatever terror. They even request Indian Hemp part of condition to release victims kidnapped.
“I want to commend the NCS for this, it is a wonderful seizure, we will continue to work together to ensure everyone goes to sleep with two eyes closed,” he said.
