Nigeria’s Queen of Track, Tobiloba Amusan’s hope of attending the forthcoming 2023 World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary is currently hanging in the balance as she awaits the decision of the Athletics Integrity Unit over her ‘ provisional suspension by the Athletics Integrity Unit(AIU).
The suspension was consequent upon Amusan’s missing three whereabouts drug tests within a 12-month period.
The suspension, which is still valid pending the outcome of the decision of AIU has seen
the reigning World 100m women’s hurdles champion excluded from the list of the athletes released by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria(AFN) due to represent Nigeria at the world stage.
The AFN had recently organized trials at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State, to assess athletes’ performances.
Those who met the required standards and times set by World Athletics were selected for the competition.
The world championship is scheduled to occur between August 17th and August 29th, 2023 and this cast a big doubt on the participation of Amusan who is currently on suspension.
It however remains to be seen when the decision of the AIU will come forth
