Again, unknown hoodlums attack INEC office in Imo

Some hoodlums on Sunday, attacked the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State.

Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner who supervises the Information and Voter Education Committee said: “Overall, this is the seventh attack on our facilities in five states of the Federation in the last four months.”

Professor Sylvia Agu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, for Imo State, said the hoodlums attacked the office of the INEC around 4am today (December 4).

“The attack affected the Conference Room, where office furniture and fittings were destroyed.

“However, other critical facilities were not affected.

He stated: “Once again, the Commission expresses its concern on the consequences of what appears to be a systematic attack on its facilities across the country on the conduct of elections in particular and electoral activities in general.”

Okoye has said that the electoral commission has called the attention of the security agencies to the attack for necessary and adequate investigation.
