Wike hosts PDP stakeholders meeting, urges unity to revive party’s fortunes

In a bid to reinforce the resilience of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike convened a meeting of key stakeholders on Monday evening under the banner of “Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP.” Wike assured the attendees that the party is not on the brink of collapse.

While it remains unclear if Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, a member of the G-5 group, attended, fellow governors Ifeanyi Uguanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) were present.

The meeting also included notable figures such as the National Secretary of the PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former Senate Minority Leader Philip Aduda, and various former and current federal and state lawmakers.

During his address, Wike expressed gratitude for the commitment of those present, stating that they are not just critics but active supporters of the party. He credited the G-5 Governors with playing a crucial role in stabilizing the country and argued that their previous decisions were essential in preventing a national crisis.

Wike emphasized the importance of respecting the party’s constitution and urged members to prioritize unity over personal ambitions, warning that greed and ego could jeopardize the party’s future.

Dr. Ortom affirmed Wike’s contributions to the PDP and pointed out the mistakes the party has made that led to its current challenges. He noted the crucial role of the opposition in a democracy, stressing that the country cannot afford to become a one-party state.

As the meeting continued behind closed doors, attendees were hopeful for a communique that would outline the group’s resolutions moving forward.
