FG orders closure of all polytechnics ahead of 2023 elections

The federal government on Monday ordered the closure of all polytechnics in Nigeria ahead of the much anticipated 2023 general elections.

This came 1 week after the National Universities Commission (NUC) directed the closure of all universities for 3 weeks.

The government had ordered the closure of the universities to ensure students, lecturers and workers were given the opportunity to cast their votes for the candidates of their choice.

This was revealed by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu in a letter dated February 10, 2023 and which was signed by I.O Folorunsho.

The content of the letter which was made available to newsmen on Monday was addressed to the executive secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Idris Bugaje.

The letter revealed that the order should be communicated to rectors and provosts of all polytechnics.

The letter reads, “In view of concerns expressed on the security of staff, students, and properties of our respective institutions, the minister of education, Adamu Adamu, has, following extensive consultations with the relevant security agencies, directed that all polytechnics be shut down.

“And academic activities will be suspended between Wednesday, February 22 and Tuesday March 14, 2023.”
