The Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi SAN has appealed to the state government to release subvention to cover the increasing operational costs of the institution, explaining that the institution has been surviving on loans, which has overstretched the financial management capability of the Management.
He solicited the support of the state government to fund capital projects to accelerate the development of the university.
Prof Akanbi said this when he led the university’s management staff last week to pay a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Senior Ibrahim Suleiman at his office, Kwara State Secretariat Ilorin.
He stated that KWASU being a tripartite institution is operating from malete alone and expressed his pleasure at having both Osi and Ilesha Baruba campuses completed soon.
The Vice-Chancellor, who expressed his profound appreciation to the state government for the Shao- Malete road rehabilitation, added that the road has in no small measure eased the day-to-day stress experienced by commuters plying the route.
He stressed that the Institution enjoyed a healthy relationship with the state government, noting that Governor AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman’s led administration has in no small way impacted positively in the institution, adding that the state government’s intervention during the accreditation exercise of KWASU law programme and other courses was remarkable.
Responding, the commissioner welcomed the KWASU management team, assuring them of his utmost cooperation, support and commitment towards the development of the institution.
