Some traditional religion worshipers stormed a mosque in Ile-Ife, Osun State and reportedly injured at least six Muslims who were observing their prayers.
The Informant247 recalls that the traditionalists who were carrying out Oro ritual invaded the mosque on Thursday March 30 and launched an attack on the Muslims.
The traditionalists had on Wednesday March 29 revealed that the ritual would be done in some areas of the ancient town between 2pm to 7pm, and have sent message of warning to residents to stay away.
The Muslims who ignored the warning went ahead with their Islamic schedule on the day which triggered the invasion of the mosque by the traditionalists.
The traditionalists invaded the mosque situated at Idi-Omo, Ilare around 4 pm to chase the Muslims who were observing their ablution around the mosque.
They reportedly invaded the mosque with canes and began to beat the Muslims who were performing ablution.
Alhaji Abdullateef Adesiyan, the Imam was flogged with a cane.
The Muslims’ call for assistance made other Muslims within the environ to gather, and this made the Oro worshipers run away.
The Muslims who sustained various degrees of injury were hospitalized for medical attention.
The police mobilised its operatives to the affected scene and they launched an investigation into the matter.
Muslims in the ancient town championed a protest on Friday March 31 against the invasion of and attack on the mosque.
While reacting to the crisis, the first class traditional monarch, the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, called for order and peace.
The king made this revelation on Friday March 31 through his second in command, Obalufe of Ifeland, Idowu Adediwura.
