A teacher, Olatunji Akande, 42, was on Thursday docked in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Okitipupa, Ondo State over alleged assault on his wife, Sarah.
Akande, whose address has not been disclosed, was charged by the police, with theft, felony and assault.
ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, the police prosecutor, informed the court that Olatunji Akande, on Sept. 16 around 7 p.m. at Ayeka new site, Okitipupa in Okitipupa Magisterial District committed the offences.
The police prosecutor, said Akande assaulted Sarah by hitting her with a big stick over a mild marital misunderstanding between the duo and a sum of N40,000 of his wife was stolen by him.
He revealed that the offences were in contravention of sections 451, 351 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Law of Ondo State, 2006.
Akande has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Mr Chris Ojuola, the Chief Magistrate, has given the accused the bail in the sum of fifty thousand naira, N50,000 and one surety in like sum.
He further said that the surety must be living within the jurisdiction of the court and must provide evidences of the payment of two years tax to the state government.
He has adjourned the matter until Oct. 17 for further hearing.
