Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has urged Nigerians to exercise patience over the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, popularly known as petrol, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while expressing optimism that things will improve in the country in due time.
Mohammed, who represents the North-East subregion in the Committee headed by Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris, on palliative distribution, made the appeal in Bauchi on Saturday, saying understanding and cooperation from all Nigerians are necessary at this crucial period.
The chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum also stated that the members of the committee, set up the National Economic Council (NEC), are committed to recommend the fair modalities for the distribution of palliatives to all sectors affected by the subsidy removal, regardless of political party differences.
In his words, “Both opposition and ruling governors understand that the move by the federal government is a step in the right direction and have assured that the process will not be politicized.”
Mohammed also explained that the Committee would recommend increment in workers’ salaries and procurement of a large number of shuttle buses, adding that the Committee’s report would be presented to the NEC within two weeks for further deliberations and subsequent ratification.
