Seun Kuti — the son of the famous Afrobeats legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti has explained reason he slapped a policeman who was in police uniform.
The Informant247 learned that the son of the famous Afrobeats maestro slapped a police officer; as captured in a video which has gone viral on social media.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, directed the security agency to effect the arrest of the musician.
The spokesperson of the police, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this known in a statement released on Saturday night.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, who was captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform,” Adejobi said in the statement.
While explaining his own side of the story, Seun Kuti said the police officer was after his own life, as he wanted to kill him and members of his family.
He added that the law enforcement agent had tendered his apology and that he (Seun) had accepted and welcome his apology.
Kuti said: “He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof but I no dey chase clout. He has apologised and I have agreed not to press charges. Make una mind una business make the poor guy no lose him job.”
While reacting to the order from the police boss to get him arrested, he said he was ready to make himself available for investigation.
“I welcome the investigation and will give my full cooperation! I also pray to the IG that whoever is wrong should be indicted,” he wrote.
The Informant247 observes that Nigerian celebrities and influencers are used to creating drama whenever they have encounter with security agents.
Some weeks ago, the famous street singer Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as Portable equally assaulted some policemen.
He (Portable) refused to honour the invitation of the police; sabotaging many attempts of the police to have him around for interrogation.
He resisted arrest of the police and made video of himself, bragging about his conduct.
The police eventually got him arrested, brought him before a Magistrate Court in Ifo Local Government Area — which order his remand at the Ilaro Prison till he fulfilled his condition of bail.
After few hours in the correctional facility, Portable regained his freedom.
