The Nigerian Senate on Monday called for an emergency plenary to pass the N2 trillion supplementary budget and the confirmation of residents electoral commissioners(REC) nominees
It would be recalled that the red chamber had concluded the screening of RECs of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) last week.
The planary became necessary, given that without the approval the votes and proceedings of last Thursday, the passed budget and confirmed RECs are of no effect.
It’s instructive to note that in line with its standing rules, the plenary days of the upper legislative chamber are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
A clean copy of the budget can be transmitted to Tinubu for assent following the approval of the votes and proceedings of Thursday.
Also, the REC nominees can now be sworn in and deployed to their respective states to commence work.
