S’Court removes Julius Abure as Labour Party national chairman
The Supreme Court on Friday ousted Julius Abure from his position as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
The unanimous judgment from a five-member panel of the Supreme Court overturned an earlier decision by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had recognized Abure’s leadership role. The apex court determined that the appellate court lacked the jurisdiction to make such a declaration, stating that matters regarding party leadership are considered internal affairs, thus not subject to judicial intervention.
The court allowed the appeal filed by Senator Esther Usman and another, acknowledging their claims as meritorious.
Additionally, the Supreme Court noted that Abure’s tenure had already expired, leading to the dismissal of the cross-appeal from his faction within the Labour Party.
