Plateau: Death toll rises to 52 in gunmen attacks in Bokkos

The death toll in coordinated gunmen attacks on several communities in Bokkos local government area of Plateau State has tragically risen to 52. This increase follows the recovery of an additional 40 corpses of victims who were killed by the assailants during rampaging attacks on Wednesday and Thursday nights, prompting search and rescue operations in the area.

According to reports from LEADERSHIP, the attackers targeted the communities of Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna (Tagai), Hurti, and Tadai on the night of April 2, 2025, firing indiscriminately on innocent residents.

Farmasum Fuddang, Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard, confirmed the grim incident to reporters on Friday. He stated that 31 individuals were given a mass burial on Thursday, while five underage victims were burned beyond recognition in Hurti village. Furthermore, 11 were killed in Ruwi village, four in Manguna, and one in Daffo Village.

In response to the violence, the Plateau State government has announced the arrest of several suspects linked to the killings. Hon. Joyce Ramnap, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, issued a statement reaffirming the government’s condemnation of the attacks.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and assure them that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Ramnap stated. She emphasized the administration’s commitment to the safety and security of all Plateau residents.

Security agencies have been deployed to the affected areas to restore normalcy quickly, and significant arrests have already been made to help address the unrest. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

The Plateau State government is calling on religious, traditional, and community leaders to promote peace and lawful engagement among residents. The administration remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice against those seeking to destabilize local communities and encourages citizens to cooperate with law enforcement while using official channels for reporting security concerns.
