Road rehabilitation: Demolition not targeted at Mashood Mustapha, says Kwara govt
The Kwara State Government has clarified that all structures encroaching on government setbacks have been marked to make way for rehabilitation works on Ahmadu Bello Way.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, stated this in response to recent reports alleging plans by the government to demolish a building belonging to Hon. Moshood Mustapha, who is a recently turned archenemy of the Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in the state.
According to the statement, marking structures encroaching on government setbacks is a standard practice aimed at facilitating infrastructural development, and it was added that there are no plans to demolish Hon. Moshood Mustapha’s building or complex.

“The focus of the rehabilitation works primarily targets the fence of the structure and some adjoining kiosks that encroach on the setbacks along Ahmadu Bello Way and Sulu-Gambari Road. The delineated red lines in the provided drawing indicate the land area occupied by Hon. Moshood Mustapha’s building, with anything outside of that red line falling beyond the approved Certificate of Occupancy (CoO) for the structure,” he said.
While acknowledging the necessity of adhering to regulations, the governor’s spokesperson emphasised that the government is only concerned with structures encroaching on government setbacks, a measure applicable to all affected properties along Ahmadu Bello Way and other affected roads throughout the state.
He further mentioned similar actions taken along Unity Road and University of Ilorin Road.
“We think we should slow down. This is our state; no one has greater claims to it than the other. Let us please check things to be sure we are not being used to do mischief and heat up the polity for no just cause. Peace is priceless,” he said.
