Ahead of 2022, Qatar World Cup qualifiers game against Black Stars of Ghana in March, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Super Eagles of Nigeria have reiterated their commitment towards making it to the Mundial.
In a series of tweets by NFF President, Amaju Pinnick on Tuesday, he revealed how the NFF Chieftains alongside the Technical crew of the Super Eagles had gone to London to hold meetings with Players ahead of the cracker.
“In furtherance to my tweets regarding our plans to ensure we qualify for this year’s @FIFAWorldCup in Qatar, we’ve held a series of meetings in London with our Super Eagles players. It was me, the team secretary, the coach & technical adviser of the team” said Amaju
He disclosed that the Minister of Youth and Sports development, Sunday Dare also had a zoom meeting with the players with the engagement equally serving as a medium where the newly constituted Technical crew were introduced to the team.
“The Ministry of Youth & Sports Development, led by the Honourable Minister, @SundayDareSD also had a zoom meeting with over 30 players of the Super Eagles squad. Aside from the chance to introduce the new members of the coaching crew to the team, it was also a chance to…have “clear the air” talks” the tweet reads.
Including Ademola Lookman who has just gotten approval from FIFA to represent Nigeria, the President noted that the commitment of the players is now geared towards securing the world cup ticket.
Noting the enormity of Support the team has enjoyed from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, he commended the Minister, saying that the Eagles has never had it soo good before now.
“And I’m so proud of the commitment and zeal I’m seeing and getting from the team. From players like Etebo, Kelechi, Troost & new lad, Lookman, the message was & is clear; we will play at the World Cup and give a good account of ourselves”
“We are not going to Qatar to make up the numbers. We are going to give it our best shot. I’d like to, again, thank the Honourable Minister, Sunday Dare. It might sound like a broken record at this point, but his support is truly massive. From ensuring we get the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja to joining in the zoom call with over 30 members of the National Team, his energy is truly infectious”
Amaju, who is also a FIFA Council member urged Nigerians to continue to support the team with their prayers, as he promised that the World Cup ticket is non-negotiable.
“Make no mistake. World Cup qualification is non-negotiable. We are putting all of our efforts on getting the ticket. Your prayers and support are invaluable in this regard. God willing, we will achieve our goals because we will not relent. God bless Nigeria & God bless us all” he concluded.
In the entourage with the President to London were the Coach of the Super Eagles, Austin Eguavoen; Chief Coach, Emmanuel Amuneke and Dr. Mohammed Sanusi the NFF Secretary-General.
Nigeria will face the Black Stars of Ghana in the final round of the Qatar World Cup qualifiers game in March. The first leg of the game is billed for Ghana on March 23rd while the return leg holds on 27th at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
