Businessman docked for alleged possession of fake Naira

Balarabe Shuaibu, a 38-year-old businessman, was charged in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday with allegedly possessing phony Naira notes.

The police charged Shuaibu, who lives in Ungwan Dosa, Kaduna with fraud and possession of counterfeit currency.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Chidi Leo,  said the defendant was arrested with by a patrol team in t Ungwan Dosa on Feb. 2.

Leao also said that the defendant lied to his victims that he was capable of producing N1,000 and N500 notes.

“The defendant claimed he could produce 100 pieces of N200 notes, N1,000 and N500 by applying a chemical substance to pieces of paper or other materials,” the prosecutor stated.

Leo noted that the offence is punishable under sections 311 and 34 of the Penal Code  of Kaduna State, 2017.

Shuaibu pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

One of the sureties, he said, must be a blood relation.

Emmanuel adjourned the case until March 29 for hearing.
