Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has expressed concerns that the N35,000 provisional wage increase, effective for six months, could exacerbate hunger and inflation in Nigeria.

He conveyed his reservations through a statement from his media aide, Oluwatosin Osho.

In response to President Tinubu’s approval of the wage award for all treasury-paid federal government workers, Primate Ayodele cautioned, “The N35,000 wage increment may result in increased hunger. If not managed carefully, it could lead to a more challenging situation. There’s potential for corruption in its distribution, and this could exacerbate inflation. It’s not the right advice.”

Furthermore, Ayodele suggested that the government should have requested additional time to plan for the wage increase properly.

He emphasized that the move may lead to a higher cost of living and warned that prices of goods could start rising, ultimately causing increased economic hardship.
