In the wake of the tragic accident that resulted in the deaths of a pregnant woman and a tricyclist in Lagos, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has provided a detailed account of the incident.
The accident occurred during an attempt to apprehend a driver for violating traffic rules.
A LASTMA traffic officer, Hassan Kehinde, reported that the driver was arrested for driving against traffic and a policeman volunteered to escort the apprehended vehicle to LASTMA’s office.
Kehinde said that the driver attempted to escape, leading to a fatal accident in which the tricyclist died on the spot, and the pregnant woman later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
He futhered that the two injured schoolchildren were also involved in the crash and are receiving medical treatment.
Kehinde added that the incident sparked protests, and the escort policeman narrowly escaped being lynched.
LASTMA thereby, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and pledged a thorough investigation to determine the accident’s cause.

In a separate incident, LASTMA officials responded to an emergency involving a Julius Berger truck that knocked down a newly erected barrier on the Ojuelegba Flyover in Lagos.

The driver of the Julius Berger truck was arrested by LASTMA officials and handed over to the police.
