Procurement goes beyond contracts’: Kwara agency boss urges Oyo practitioners to uphold ethics
The General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Kwara State Public Procurement Agency, Raheem Abdulbaki, has urged public procurement practitioners to uphold professional ethics and integrity, saying their responsibilities go beyond the award of contracts.
Abdulbaki made the call at the inauguration of the Oyo State chapter of the Association of Public Procurement Practitioners of Nigeria, APPON.
He said the future of the procurement profession depended largely on the attitude, conduct and integrity of practitioners and their leaders.
“The future of the procurement profession depends largely on the attitude, conduct and integrity of procurement leaders and practitioners,” he said.
The Kwara procurement agency boss urged practitioners to conduct themselves in a manner that would earn them the confidence of governments, contractors and the public.
He also charged them to carry out their duties with courage, diligence, fairness and integrity, stressing that public procurement played a broader role in protecting public interest.
“Let us be professional, be ethical, be courageous, protect the public interest, uphold the dignity of our profession because the profession leaves a lasting legacy, as our work is about building a better society,” Abdulbaki said.
He commended the newly inaugurated Oyo chapter for providing a platform for procurement professionals to share knowledge, exchange experiences and promote continuous professional development.
Abdulbaki expressed optimism that the Kwara State chapter of the association would also be launched soon.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Inter-State Procurement Collaboration and Excellence Award to Abdulbaki in recognition of his leadership and commitment to strengthening public procurement systems across states.
