Nigerian veteran Journalist and the Publisher of the Premium Times, Dapo Olorunyomi has commended The Informant247 for its accountability journalism drive in strengthening democratic principles.
Olorunyomi made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the main office of The Informant247 on Friday in Ilorin, Kwara State Capital.
Stressing the need to keep the government accountable, the ace publisher stated that the cause for quality journalism is not negotiable if democracy was to survive in Africa.
While commending the The Informant247 for its vision and policy thrust, he promised to leverage some of the existing structures and avenues for supporting news room activities to aid the medium’s sustainability.
“We are proud to be here with you today and I am really honored. I am impressed with some of the impacts of your works and i want to urge you to keep upholding the cause of accountability journalism in order for us to have a better society.
Earlier in his remarks, the Publisher of The Informant247, Shola Saliu Taofeeq described the visit of the veteran Journalist as a rare privilege and a source of motivation.
“We have been greatly inspired by you and your work, and we are happy to have you here. It’s a rare privilege for us and our belief is that this will further spur us to do more in keeping up with our role as the watch dog of the society.
He lauded Olorunyomi’s effort in championing innovative journalism and media development in the western part of Africa, a move that he said has created a novel and impactful ways of delivering the core mandate of journalism as the ‘fourth estate of the realm.
The visit, which featured extensive deliberations on the development of the journalism practice was also marked by the presentation of the magazine and a documentary produced by the Informant247 to the ace Publisher.
