A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft, operating under Operation Hadin Kai, successfully destroyed a gun truck and neutralized eight terrorists in Baranga village, Marte Local Government Area of Borno.
This decisive strike took place while NAF troops were conducting an armed reconnaissance mission in the region.
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF, confirmed the operation in a statement issued in Abuja.
He emphasized that this airstrike is part of the ongoing efforts to eliminate remnants of terrorists in the North East.
The opportunity for the strike arose when two armed terrorists on a motorcycle were tracked along an active track.
Upon noticing the aircraft, the terrorists sought cover under dense vegetation.
However, a gun truck carrying eight terrorists suddenly emerged and attempted to escape from the aircraft.
In response, the gun truck was engaged and destroyed, resulting in the elimination of the terrorists. Gabkwet noted that terrorists in the Northeast often seek refuge in dense forests and vegetation to evade detection by the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies.
This operation underscores the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to prevent terrorists from freely roaming and attacking law-abiding Nigerians.
The sustained efforts against terrorist remnants aim to ensure the safety and security of the region.
