Police officer, Insp Orukpe, allegedly assaulted by soldiers died of multiple injuries – Autopy reports

The results of the two autopsies conducted on late police Insp Monday Orukpe of the Lagos State police command have been released.

The results of the autopsies revealed that the police officer died of multiple injuries, assault and blunt force trauma.

The autopsies were carried by the Nigerian Army Cantonment Medical Centre, Ojo and the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

The results were made public to newsmen by Mrs Favour Orukpe, the widow, on Thursday.

The Informant247 recalled that on August 3, some military officers from Ojo Cantonment allegedly had a clash with some police officers who were in control of traffic in the area, and which led to the death of Orukpe.

The autopsy which originated from LASUTH and which was signed on October 27, 2022, by Dr O.O. Onayemi of the Department of Pathology and Forensics stated that blunt force trauma and multiple injuries was the death of Insp Orukpe.

The autopsy report which originated from Nigerian Army’ and which was signed by Dr I. Agueze stated assault was the primary cause of his death while head injury was the secondary cause of death.

Mrs Orukpe had made an allegation that her husband had not been buried because the release of the autopsy reports and the investigation report of Nigerian Army.

She also said that though the reports of autopsy were now made opened, the Nigerian Army was has not yet made public its investigation report to ascertain who the culprits were.

Maj. Olaniyi Osoba, the Acting Deputy Director who’s also in charge of Public Relations at 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, revealed that the joint committee of the police and Army looking into the case was still having sitting.

Osoba disclosed that the investigating team had done so much in its assignment and was looking into all issues concerning the incident.

He also revealed that the report would be released when the committee finishes its findings.
