In a bid to curb farmers-herders crises, the Gombe State Government has placed a ban on the movement of cattle from other states into the state.
Mohammed Magaji Gettado, who’s the Commissioner for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, made this revelation while speaking to newsmen immediately after concluding the State Executive Council meeting which was presided over by the governor.
The council also placed a ban on movement of cattle from one local government to the other till next year January (2023) to enable the production of food in the state.
The commissioner also revealed that Nigerian farmers have nothing to consume now that they have exhausted all their produce because they received 10-15 per cent of what they were supposed to receive.
”In view of this, there is a need for government to take serious measures to at least take care of the little we have on our farmers. We intend to restrict the movement of cattle from one local government to another because most of the destruction is done by indigenous cattle in Gombe State.
“Night grazing is one of the issues we are having between farmers and herders from 6 pm is very dangerous. Usually, they destroy farms, no night grazing from 6 pm to 6 am as far as Gombe is concerned.
“We have directed the leadership of Myetti Allah to make sure that no children are allowed to shepherd cattle because it is one of the causes of farmers/herders conflict.”
