PDP’s Fatai Aremu, Abdullahi Magaji receive defectors in APC’s stronghold in Asa
Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Alapa Onire-Odegiwa Ward, Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), pledging support for the party and its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors were received on Friday by Prof. Fatai Aremu, popularly known as Dandinkowa, the PDP candidate for Ilorin West and Asa Federal Constituency, and Hon. Abdullahi Magaji, the party’s candidate for the Owode-Onire Constituency seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly.
The development is notable as Alapa Onire-Odegiwa is the home base of prominent APC figures, including Lati Alakawa, engineer Musa Yeketi and the incumbent lawmaker representing the constituency.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, their leaders said they joined the PDP because of their belief in the party’s ability to rescue Kwara State and deliver the dividends of democracy to residents.
They pledged their support for PDP candidates, particularly Aremu and Magaji, and promised to work with the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The defectors were led by Abdullahi Garuba Omo Alimah, who brought members of the Abdulateef Alakawa group into the PDP, and Akanji Kusumu, who led the Engineer Musa Yeketi group.
The reception brought together PDP leaders, supporters and the new members, with the party continuing its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.
