LOCAL GOVERMENT STAKEHOLDERS REJECT FUND ALLOTTED TO PAY SALARIES, VOW TO GO ON STRIKE

  The Local Government stakeholders has, in a communique released on Thursday 20th of July, 2017, rejected the amount released for the payment of Local Government worker’s salaries from the second tranche of the Paris club refund.
 
  The communique which was a resolution of stakeholders of the Local Government system was signed by Com. Oluruntade Ibikunle of NULGE, Com. Toyin Saliu of NUT, Com. Muritala S. Olayinka of MHWUN, Com. J. A. Adekanye of  NANNP, Com. A. Y. Mahmud of NUP, and Com. Sheu Babatunde of NASU and held on Thursday, 20th of July, 2017.

  They call on the State Government to emulate states like Osun, Ogun, Abia, Benue, and Ekiti who respected their agreements with the Federal Government by releasing 75% of the total fund in the payment of salaries. They further analysed 75% of 5.1billion Naira to be 3.8billion Naira, thereby urging the state government to expend the sum of 3.8billion Naira on the payment of Local Government salaries.

  “The Joint Union’s thereby wish to inform the Kwara State Government that should the State Government fail to meet the yearning of our members, we would be left with no other option, than to embark on a serious industrial actions, that may be detrimental to the smooth running of the State.” It concluded.

  It will be recalled that Governor Ahmed on Tuesday approved the release of N1b to local councils in the State to offset part of their salary arrears. The governor also approved the release of N312, 191, 101.71 to tertiary institutions in the State towards offseting the arrears which they owed their staffs.
