Opinion | APC can’t afford to get 2027 wrong: The baton belongs to Captain Ahmad Mahmoud

With just days left before the APC gubernatorial primary election in Kwara State, the moment of decision has arrived. This is no longer the time for political experiments, backroom calculations, or the recycling of familiar names whose ambitions outweigh their capacity. The party stands at a defining crossroads, and the choice it makes now will echo far beyond the primary. The APC must choose competence over convenience. Character over noise. Integrity over desperation. That choice points clearly and unmistakably to Captain Ahmad Mahmoud.

At a time when public trust in politics is fragile and voters are increasingly demanding substance over slogans, Captain Ahmad Mahmoud has emerged as the one aspirant whose reputation remains untouched by scandal, controversy, or political baggage. In a political climate crowded with accusations, bitterness, and endless power struggles, his clean record shines like a beacon. And that matters.

Kwarans are no longer interested in leaders who arrive with explanations and excuses attached to their names. They are tired of recycled politics disguised as experience. What they seek is credibility: a leader whose life already reflects discipline, excellence, calm judgment, and responsibility. Captain Ahmad Mahmoud embodies all of these qualities.

This is a man whose professional journey reflects precision, accountability, and uncommon mental discipline. His achievements did not come through political patronage or manufactured influence, but through years of hard work, technical mastery, and leadership under pressure. Such a background shapes a different kind of leader, one who understands that every decision carries consequences and that leadership is a sacred responsibility, not a personal entitlement.

But beyond competence lies something even more powerful: character.
Long before politics entered the conversation, Captain Ahmad Mahmoud had already built a reputation for compassion, philanthropy, and genuine concern for ordinary people. His humanitarian interventions were never designed for applause or campaign headlines. They came naturally because service is part of who he is. That authenticity is difficult to fake, and the people can see the difference.

The APC must recognize the political advantage standing before it. In an era where opponents are waiting eagerly to weaponize scandals and destroy reputations, Captain Ahmad Mahmoud remains difficult to attack because there is simply no dirt to amplify. No corruption allegations. No record of public disgrace. No history of betrayal. His strength lies not in propaganda, but in personal credibility. And that is exactly why his rise has unsettled many political interests.

The truth is simple: while others are struggling to repair damaged public images, Captain Ahmad Mahmoud is entering this race with dignity intact. While others rely on political machinery, he is relying on trust, goodwill, and the growing belief among Kwarans that a new generation of leadership is possible.

This primary election is not merely about choosing a candidate. It is about choosing the future identity of the APC in Kwara State. The party must decide whether it wants to inspire hope and confidence or retreat into the comfort zone of old political habits. The baton of leadership should not be handed to the loudest voice or the most connected network. It should be handed to the man whose life already demonstrates preparedness for leadership.

That man is Captain Ahmad Mahmoud.

The cap fits him naturally because responsibility has always fit him naturally. The discipline, composure, intelligence, and integrity required for leadership are already visible in him. He does not need to reinvent himself for politics because excellence has always been his language.

As the gubernatorial primary draws near, APC delegates and stakeholders must think beyond temporary alliances and personal interests. They must think about victory, credibility, stability, and the future of Kwara State.

This is the moment for courage. This is the moment for vision.
And this is the moment for the APC to place the baton where it truly belongs — in the hands of Captain Ahmad Mahmoud.
