Kwara govt hands over revitalized PHC facilities to Ganmo, Balogun Alanamu communities

The Kwara State Government has handed over two revitalized Primary Health Care facilities to communities in Ifelodun and Ilorin West Local Government Areas as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen access to quality healthcare across the state.

The handover ceremonies were held at the newly upgraded Primary Health Care Centres in Ganmo and Balogun Alanamu, drawing residents, traditional leaders, and government officials. While the Balogun Alanamu facility was handed over on Monday, the Ganmo centre was officially presented to the community last Friday.

Speaking at the events, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, urged residents of the benefiting communities to take ownership of the facilities by protecting and maintaining them to ensure sustainable healthcare delivery.

She encouraged community members to make use of the centres for treatment of minor ailments instead of seeking such services at secondary and tertiary health institutions outside their communities.

According to her, the revitalized facilities are fully equipped with modern medical equipment and essential healthcare services, including delivery suites, antenatal care, and immunization services.

Prof. Elelu added that healthcare workers deployed to the centres had received adequate training to provide quality healthcare services to patients.

At the Ganmo handover ceremony, the Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Hon. Femi Yusuf, commended the state government for transforming what he described as the previously deplorable condition of the health centre through the revitalization initiative.

He disclosed that Ifelodun Local Government currently has the highest number of revitalized primary health care facilities in the state, with 10 centres upgraded so far.

Yusuf also pledged the council’s commitment to maintaining the facilities and ensuring they remain in good condition for public use.

The Oniganmo of Ganmo, Oba Kamaldeen Jimoh Akanbi, expressed appreciation to the state government for the intervention and assured that the community would ensure proper use and protection of the facility.

Similarly, at Balogun Alanamu in Ilorin West Local Government Area, the Balogun Alanamu, Dr. Usman Atolagbe Jos, who received the facility on behalf of the community, thanked the state government and the management of the agency for the project.

He assured that the community would take adequate care of the health centre and make effective use of it.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had in December 2025 flagged off the revitalization of 83 primary health care facilities across the state.

A total of seven PHCs were revitalized through funds from the 2023 and 2024 PHC Leadership Challenge Funds. The facilities were upgraded to standard Level 2 PHC status and equipped with outreach vans, solar power systems, potable water supply, and staff quarters.
