Ondo Police warn against planned ‘Take-It-Back’ protest

The Police Command in Ondo State has warned the residents of the state to shun the ‘Take it Back Movement’ protest set to take place on Monday.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olushola, while acknowledging the constitutional rights of citizens to peaceful assembly and expression, in a statement issued on Monday, cited credible intelligence regarding the protest as the basis for the warning.

Olushola expressed concern that the gathering could be misappropriated by individuals with malicious intentions, potentially leading to disorder.

“The effort of the command is to stabilize the security situation across the state,” Olushola said, emphasizing that any such gathering could undo the security progress achieved in Ondo State.

In light of this, he urged the leadership of the ‘Take it Back Movement’ and their supporters to consider constructive dialogue to address their concerns rather than resorting to protests that might escalate tensions.

State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, has ordered increased personnel deployment by area commanders and Divisional Police Officers throughout the state. Additional operational units will be deployed to public spaces and critical infrastructure to maintain order.

Olushola reassured the citizens of Ondo State of the command’s commitment to upholding their rights and freedoms. He appealed to parents and guardians to prevent their children from participating in activities that could disrupt the peace.

The general public is encouraged to go about their daily activities without fear, as adequate security measures are in place. Residents are also urged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or security agency.
