Obi: S’Court judgement undermines Nigerians’ trust in nation’s judiciary

Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate during the February 25 presidential election, on Monday, in his reaction to the Supreme Court verdict, affirming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory, said that the apex court judgment is a breach of Nigerians’ trust in the judiciary arm.

Obi, a former Anambra governor made this known in a world press conference held at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja.

The Informant247 had earlier reported that the Supreme Court upheld the decision of the tribunal on Obi and Atiku Abubakar’s appeals.

Justice John Okoro-led seven-man panel of the apex court affirmed, and dismissed Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi’s appeal, challenging the judgment of the presidential petition tribunal.

The panel also rejected the application of Atiku, seeking to present Tinubu’s credentials obtained from the CSU.

The other justices on the panel are Uwani Aji, Mohammed Garba, Ibrahim Saulawa, Adamu Jauro, Abubakar Tijjani, and Emmanuel Agim.

Saulawa said, “The application by Atiku is frivolous and vexatious and deserves to be dismissed. I find no merit in the appeal and dismiss, and I affirm the decision of the lower court.”

While responding to the verdict, Obi said, “Without equivocation, this judgment amounts to a breach of confidence Nigerians have in our judiciary. To that extent, it is a show of unreasonable force against the very Nigerian people from whom the power of the Nigerian citizens is drawn.”
