There is a claim about a free medical treatment for breast cancer making round on the social media.
The claim reads; Dear All,
Please If you know of any lady battling BREAST CANCER of whatever stage please advise her to contact Dorothy@africacancerfoundation.org before 7th march, all medical expenses are free.
It has been widely circulated on social media platforms, including Facebook and WhatsApp.
In a deliberate attempt to confirm the veracity of the claim, a thorough search on the social media, it was discovered that the information was shared initially in February 2023 by many social media users.
According to information on its website, Africa Cancer Foundation (ACF) was formed on April 6, 2011 as a charitable Trust, and launched on July 12, 2011 in Nairobi, Kenya.
Founded by Professor Anyang Nyong’o, ACF works towards a cancer-free Africa by promoting the prevention of cancer and providing holistic solutions for people affected by cancer in Africa and Mrs. Dorothy Nyong’o is the Managing Trustee of the Africa Cancer Foundation.
The foundation in a statement on its official facebook page on Sunday stated that it’s not offering any free medical treatment for breast cancer.
“Unfortunately, there are no free surgeries being offered in 2024 as the funding is not there. The message being circulates is out-of-date and no longer relevant”.
It was also discovered that the foundation debunk the claim in 2023 when the message first emerged online where it noted that the deadline for submitting applications for the free breast cancer operations expired in 2022.
Africa cancer foundation is not offering free medical treatment for breast cancer victims in 2024.
