The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), Kwara Chapter, has issued threat to stage a peaceful protest and storm Kwara airport, to register its displeasure at the lingering industrial action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
The NANS Chairman in Kwara state, Mr Salman Issa, told newsmen on Monday in Ilorin, the state capital, that members were just waiting for order from the national secretariat of the association.
The chairman revealed that once the national leadership of the association gives order to the students in the remaining 36 states, they would dance to the tune of the national body of the association.
The chairman of NANS in Kwara state said this as a reaction to the blockage of the Murtala Mohammed Airport by the NANS, who occupied the Airport in Lagos to register its dissatisfaction over the seven-month industrial strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The students’ national body had earlier threatened to ground activities at the local and international airports across the country, beginning Monday due to the strike.
Issa revealed that the directives from the national leadership of the association so far only involved Zone ‘D’ of NANS (South West states).
He said the National President of NANS has been making use of dialogue and meeting with relevant stakeholders to put an end to the lingering strike by ASUU.
“The directives of the protest is only binding on South West states which has been ongoing for the past five days.
“When given directive, we shall comply too,” he said.
The Informant247 recalls that the students’ association had earlier issued threat to stop activities at the local and international airports across Nigeria starting from Monday due to the strike.
The Chairman of the NANS National Task Force on ‘End ASUU Strike Now,’ Ojo Raymond Olumide, expressed disappointment in the government as he said students were tired of pleading with both parties to put an end to the industrial strike.
The Informant247 had earlier reported that the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, on Monday invaded the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
This is to mount pressure on the government to put an end to the seven month industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
